Mid-week Quickie #5
Everything I wore this week, Net-A-Porter Singles Day sale picks and an explosive Real Housewives expose
Hello friends!
I’m currently sitting on my new couch rewatching Gilmore Girls for maybe the 15th time. I’m now older than Lorelai was in the first season and that’s interesting for my brain to try and grasp. But that’s beside the point!
I finally hunted down a couch via FB Marketplace. I always try to find things here first than buying new where I can! It took me a year though lol. We were after one that is both comfortable and cute, that Angus agreed to (near impossible), that wasn’t too long of a drive to pick up and that fits our space. We ended up with this one from MCM and I’ve never felt such comfort in my life. It’s a three seater and it came with two giant ottomans, adding to the extreme comfort levels. The covers can be removed and washed! I’d insert a pic of it in our space but I don’t have a nice one yet. We previously had this one from Sarah Ellison which we LOVE but it’s just not comfy enough for our nightly Netflix viewing. I’d planned to keep the Sarah Ellison couch but move it upstairs to our third bedroom/a space I’m going to turn into my studio but in classic Sydney Terrace form, it wouldn’t fit up our stairs. So alas, it will be sold!
I’m forever on my FB Marketplace grind, but most weeks it’s just scrolling without discovering any gold. But in the past week I’ve found four things! I might need to do a dedicated substack with all my Marketplace purchases…
Swiftly moving on, how much are we loving 1989 (Taylor’s Version)!? I’ve been almost exclusively listening to that all week (and loving the TikTok discourse on the Vault tracks and beyond, as always), as well as my usual Formula 1 podcasts (the Mexico GP race over the weekend made this Daniel Ricciardo fan VERY happy). We also watched the documentary Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain - yes we’re a few years behind - and wow, what an emotional few hours that was. I’ve never seen any of his TV shows before but I’ve already ordered his book Kitchen Confidential.
This past week I’ve also been devouring Britney’s book, The Women in Me and my god it’s SAD. I’ve got about a third left and I’m bracing for the worst. Have you read it yet? On one hand she’s shared more than I thought she would, but also skimmed over a lot of stuff I thought would have more detail to it. Still, a fascinating, devastating read. I feel so angry for her.
Another wild read is this expose on (my beloved) Housewives franchise from Vanity Fair - I’ve pulled a bit from the article below. It’s a rather horrifying and depressing read…will it stop me from tuning in to the next ep of my favourite RHOBH this week…no.
The Housewife woke up in her own urine. She was still drunk from the night before, when she’d had three drinks at dinner, another three or four with her costars, then an indeterminate but debilitating amount of mescal after her castmates went to sleep. The house had been fully stocked when they arrived.
She was too hungover to care that she’d wet the bed and so sick that she couldn’t film, she told production. But people on set kept telling her she was fine, it was just the Mexican water screwing up her stomach—the same thing had happened to them in Cartagena, Colombia, the year before.
The van hired for the day trip pulled over so the Housewife could throw up. When the crew saw what was happening, they rushed over, she said—not to help, but to document it. Bravo didn’t wind up airing that footage. Production did bring in a doctor, who gave the Housewife a shot. She pulled down her pants on camera and took it while a castmate held her hand.
“If you go to the whorehouse, you’re gonna get fucked,” said another Real Housewife. She knows what you think—that if you sign up to be on a Bravo reality show, you deserve what you get—and she agrees. “If we do this, it’s at our own peril. We know that, and we don’t fucking care.”
Moving onto fashion - I’m quite furious Phoebe Philo (the former designer of Celine, who just dropped her highly anticipated first collection) isn’t shipping to Australia. And that she launched in the middle of the night. But props to her for mostly selling the very $ collection out in 1 minute! Anywho. The Cut’s fashion critic-at-large, Cathy Horyn’s take on the collection here.
Net-A-Porter Singles Day sale - If you’ve had your eye on some new season Net goodies - there’s a chance you can snag it now with 25% off! I’ve pulled together an edit of my picks: including these Frankie Shop bermuda style pinstripe shorts and great mini skirt, one of the best clear Brow gels ever, the Loewe tomato candle, the cutest cat print Ganni long sleeve top and a very fun puffy sleeve Ganni mini party dress. Full edit here.
And here’s everything I’ve worn this week:
Can't find this exact Alemais shirt online so linking this one I love, this is also great. Same belt as above. Bracelet and earrings are also new faves.
That’s all from me. I can’t believe it’s November 1!
Thanks for reading <3 <3 <3
More Smooth Brain Thoughts soon,
